Who I Am.
"Hello everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to look at the work of some of the wonderful students here at the University of Maine at Farmington. These pieces showcase both personal works, as well as works for specific classes. There was a recurring theme of identity throughout many of the submissions seen here in this journal, so to play off of last year's Why Am I?, the 2023 Honors Journal brings you Who I Am. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I have."

Why Am I?
"Hello again everyone,

Thank you for taking a second to look at our wonderful showcase of students artwork. One thing the two of us touched on during this editing process was the beauty in self reflection. Which is why we immediately knew that this collection of our fellow creative peers’ works repsresented an deep introspective exploration of self. And that deeply personal reflection is what we kept in mind as we continued to compile and think about these pieces. It is proven in the following pages that the work of a creative uncovering themselves is never done, and that there is so much more growth that comes from memory or heritage. We hope you enjoy these works as much as we have."

Overcome
"This marks our third Journal for the University of Maine at Farmington’s Honors Department. Looking back at the works submitted to us this year we no-ticed a common thread between them. The delicate thread we discovered was that our artists were working through things, whether that be the shape of the loss of a loved one or struggles with self identity. It became apparent as we read, that humans have the strength to overcome, to show growth and discover through writing and art different ways to cope and to identify. Their work has shown that our struggle during this pandemic was a unified one. These seven contributors have shown us through their own challenges, pan-demic related or personal, the will power to persevere through life’s obstacles. We hope this journal leads it’s readers down the path of overcoming difficulty"

Rejuvination
"For the second time we have come together as an honors program and de- cided to showcase students’ work. Our honors students drive and motivation here at Farmington goes beyond expectation. Time and time again students push limits and comfort zones to come up with amazing ideas, thoughts, and advice to their fellow students and themselves. In their works it is clear the power writing and art has in their expression. It is our special privilege to be able to showcase the bold, authetic works each of our contributors brought here for publication.
The University of Maine at Farmington Honors Journal has become a safe space for Honors students to simply do what they do best; to create. To imagine. In our second year publishing this journal we still have many obstacles to face, but we have learned from our six contributors, that there is perseverance, and strength in moving forward. In the dark times that this year has cast over us, may this Journal be a light for rejuvenation."

Honors Journal
"The work presented here from our five contributors addresses the theme of the unknown, which mirrors the process of starting a journal from scratch. In this edition, reader, you will see that there is uncertainty in what lies in a relationship once financial struggles cause strain, and there is the struggle to keep knowledge alive when other forms of it have been forced onto populations. There are questions in how we cope and how we heal; there are questions regarding if we survive, or if we burn. We are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to feature the work of these students, and we thank you for witnessing their showcase."
